A nostalgic, simple dinner classic. This Dorito Taco Salad is a perfect mix of warm, seasoned beef and cool, crisp greens. With the crunch of your favorite Dorito chips and a tangy, creamy dressing! It’s a fast, flavorful meal that hits every texture.
Ingredients:
1-pound lean ground beef
1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
Sea salt & ground black pepper, to taste
¼ cup water
1 packet of taco seasoning mix
1 (15 ounce) can dark red kidney beans, drained
Original or taco flavored Doritos, crushed
1 large head iceberg or romaine lettuce, chopped
1-2 cups tomatoes, diced
1-2 (firm, but ripe) avocadoes, diced
½ cup shredded Sharp Cheddar cheese, or more to taste (I like Tillamook)
½ cup Thousand Island salad dressing, or to taste
1-2 dashes hot sauce
Taco Bell Taco Sauce
Directions:
Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium to medium-high heat and sauté ground beef, diced onion, salt, and pepper together until ground beef is browned and no longer pink and onions are tender, about 10 minutes. Add 1/4 cup water and taco seasoning to the meat. Stir to coat and allow to simmer for 1 minute to thicken. Set aside to cool while you prep the salad.
Add kidney beans, lettuce, tomatoes, avocadoes, Cheddar cheese, and dressing to a large bowl. Top with meat mixture and toss gently to evenly combine. Top with crushed Doritos. Add hot sauce and / or taco sauce to your liking. Serve immediately.
